A group of us friends had met and we unanimously wanted Italian food. Out of the list of Italian restaurants in Gurgaon, we zeroed in on Italiano. A major reason was, it was Saturday night, our stomachs were growling and we wanted to go to a place where we don’t have to wait for food. A friend assured, it would be empty; nothing to do with the food or ambiance, but the location, as we realized later.
The location or the surroundings of Italiano is a big drawback. Nobody would think or probably take so much trouble to wind through narrow gullis, teeming with stray dogs, cows and overflowing dustbins for Italian food.
Anyways having done that for the sake of our growling stomachs, we reached the place. The décor and ambience was impressive. The waiters too were courteous and prompt. We ordered for a Vegetable soup with parmesan, pesto and pasta, a chicken soup, Bruschetta with cheese and assorted veggies, and another one with roasted sausage and cheese. For the main course we had a Vegetable lasagna with zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, eggplant and gorgonzola and a dish with lamb cooked with mushrooms, and brown sauce flavored with wine and served with garlic bread. The bread served here is made by the chef and has a unique, melt-in-the-mouth flavor. There’s a bottle of olive oil kept and you can use that to enhance the flavor of dishes.
Having eaten this, there was no place for desserts in our stomachs. All dishes were made extremely well and tasted of authentic Italian. All were rich, creamy and heavy too as it ought to be. We skipped the desserts there and instead went to the Gelato shop downstairs to dig into a sundae. We were 5 of us and the bill came to around Rs 2000 which seemed reasonable for the quality of food and ambience. There’s a lounge and bar adjacent to the dining area which was also shockingly empty for a Saturday night. Anyways it’s good for people who don’t want to wait. It’s worth visiting again with a group of friends.
