I have heard a lot of complaints from mothers that their children or family eat a lot of junk food and practically survive on that all day outside. They dont like eating home food and regular vegetables. The only solution to this is to make a variety of tasty foods at home. This would make for a healthier and hygienic option to the roadside or outside food.
One such tasty snack variety that can be munched upon is Spicy Sev. It can easily be made at home. Here is the tasty munchy recipe that no one will be able to resist.
Ingredients:
- 200 gms Gramflour
- Salt to taste
- 2 tsp red chilli powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- Pinch of asafoetida
- 1 tsp ajwain seeds
- 2oo gms oil for frying
Method:
Place frying pan on gas and pour oil in it. Heat the oil till it comes to boil.
In the meantime, make preparations for the dough. Take and mix the flour and all other ingredients in a bowl. Add 2 tsp hot oil to the mixture. Mix it well. Add water and knead it to make a soft dough from the same. There is an instrument available in the market that is used to make sev (Sev press machine). Fill a part of the dough in this instrument (it has different plates with different sized holes). Use the plate as per the thickness of sev needed. If you want thick spicy sev use the one with larger holes. The dough will be a little sticky so wet your hands and grease the machine with oil before filling. Close the lid of the machine. The lid has a handle which is connected with a vertical rod in the middle. Turn the handle continuously and move the machine in circular motion on top of the frying pan with the boiling hot oil. Drop the pieces of Sev in the boiling oil. Let it fry for a couple of minutes on one side. Then turn it to the other side carefully. Let it cook for another couple of minutes till the colour turns yellowish brown. Lift with a draining spoon, drain properly and remove in a dish. Place a tissue paper on the dish to soak all the extra oil from the sev.
Once it cools down, it can be stored in an air tight container.
This can be served as a munchy snack with tea.
