Thakkali Alwa or Tomato Halwa is a thick dessert made with tomatoes and apples that has a very distinctive taste- tart and sweet. Although the original recipe calls for only tomatoes, we are adding a bit of coconut to it too for a more rounded taste!
Thakkali Alwa: Tomato Halwa
Ingredients:
- Butter: 2tbsp
- Tomatoes: 3, pureed
- Coconut: ½ cup
- Sugar: ¾ th cup
- Cardamom powder- ¼ th tsp
Method:
- In a pan heat butter. To it add coconut and stir for sometime. Now add tomato puree, sugar and cardamom powder.
- Let it boil and after about 15 minutes of high, let it cook on low for about 20-25 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes until it thickens.
- Cool and serve!
