Durga Puja has arrived! For Bengalis, pujo is always accompanied with good food. During daytime, as Bengalis offer prayers to the Goddess Durga, they mainly eat vegetarian food. But during the evenings, there are (almost) no rules, thanks to the tempting stalls near puja pandals, selling all kinds of Bengali street food like Jhal Muri, Mughlai Parota, Dimer Kosha, Mochar Chop, Mutton Chaap, Kosha Mangsho, Ghugni, Luchi, Rosogolla and so on. For Bengalis, their simple potato fries (Alu bhaja) are as important as their fish curry (Macher Kalia). They treat their bhajas and Shukto with respect no less than their Ilish Bhapa or Kolkata biryani. Bengalis are foodies, and they love their vegetarian dishes as much as their non-vegetarian delicacies. Bengali cuisine is not just fish!

Here are a few Bengali dishes that you can try out at home.
