And this is indeed a fact that this particularly tasty cereal, which also happens to be the staple food of India and of many other Asian countries, can be very tricky to prepare: Nothing easier if you get it right, nothing tougher if you don’t.
So, today, here’s to your knowledge, a complete guide on how to cook rice in three different cooking gadgets- Microwave, stove top and cooker; so that you always get your rice right.
How to cook rice in microwave
The ratio is 1:2 for Rice: Water. To 1 cup of rice, pour 2 cups of water from the same cup and microwave uncovered for 11-13 min. Your rice is ready.
Similarly for 2 cups of rice, the amount of water required would be 4 cups.
How to cook rice in a pressure cooker
To 1 cup of rice pour 2 cups of water (1:2 proportion) and set it over medium heat, whistle on. Let it cook till 2 whistles. Turn off the gas and leave it in the cooker, for 10-15 minutes.
How to cook Rice on stove top
In a thick bottomed pan, pour 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water and cook it over high heat till the water is frothy and boiling and reduced. Turn the gas to sim and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Turn off the heat, cover it with a lid and leave it for 10-15 minutes.
How to cook rice on stove top
In a thick bottomed pan or a rice cooker (non-electric), pour 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water and cook it over high heat till the water is frothy and boiling. Take a grain and pinch it. If it’s 3/4th done, cover the pan with a slightly oversize plate and invert it to pour the water way. This obviously requires a lot of expertise and experience. If you are cooking in a rice cooker, simply pull the container with the strainer up and place it somewhere to hang so that the water drains away.
